Dear friend,

Welcome to the February newsletter from St Peter's Church. In this newsletter you'll see the dates and times of our services in February and beyond, and details about what else we're up to as a church family.
Hi Everyone,

Despite the wintery weather, spring is definitely springing up. I was walking through the churchyard earlier this week and spotted the Snowdrops poking through. New life and signs of hope are coming.

That’s what our faith is all about, spotting hope and pointing it out where others may not perceive it. Even in the darkest and coldest of times, Jesus is still present, still relevant and still risen. Take heart, good news is just around the corner.

With love

Something new!

Despite the wintery weather and the strong desire to hibernate, the creative juices are still flowing through the church. We have a growing children’s team who are working together to create a great children’s program. If you have made it in the last few weeks, you may have noticed that we now have a Sunday group for children during the service.

There is still a craft table at the south side of the church for children to use at other points in the service too. The Sunday school is going to be running during term time only, but the craft table will be available at every service. This is just the one of many changes that we will be making to make the experience of church better and more accessible for children.

We’ve not forgotten about the teenagers either. There are a few ideas in the pipeline so watch this space.

COVID-19

You may have seen on the news that the rules have relaxed again regarding the wearing of masks in church. Obviously, Covid is still circulating so please do still be careful. We are no longer imposing any specific rules but we do ask you to be mindful of others. We’ve all got different boundaries with what we feel comfortable with at the moment and so it is important to continue to be respectful of each other.

Please also be aware that we have some members of the congregation who are more vulnerable and are still needing to keep their distance and be a little more cautious. Hand sanitiser is available near the entrance to church for all who wish to make use of it.

Heating

You may have noticed that the heating is not firing on all cylinders at the moment. We apologise if it is a little chilly. We have a leak in the system which means that we have had to turn off some of the radiators. The good news is that a heating engineer is on the way. In the short term, please do wrap up warm while we get the problem fixed. Thank you for your patience, we expect to be up and running again soon.

A huge thank you to our brilliant wardens, Miles and Denise, who have been working tirelessly to get the problem fixed.

Midweek communion

We’re continuing our series working our way through 1 John, on a Wednesday morning at 10am. Please do feel free to join us. If you can’t get to church but would like to receive an audio recording of the reading and the talk, please get in touch and we’ll get that to you. Apologies to all those who have requested audio recordings and have not yet received them, we will be getting those to you in the next few days.

Prayer for February

Lord Jesus, Saviour of the World, by your love and compassion come and save those for whom we pray.

Where there is sickness in mind or body, bring your healing;

Where there is isolation, bring your presence;

Where people have lost their way, bring your light;

In all parts of our economy, in work and trade, education and care, may your salvation be known, through the care, compassion and concern we show for one another, and in the enterprise and inventiveness which human beings, made in your image, are capable of.

Come Lord Jesus.

Amen
