Dementia Friendly

St Peter’s has recently become a member of Kirklees Dementia Action Alliance.

This means we are officially recognised as an organisation “Working Towards Being Dementia Friendly”.

As part of this membership we have submitted an action plan. The nominated contact person for this will be Elaine Jackson. Elaine will oversee the general management of the plan with the support of others. St Peter’s is committed to being dementia friendly and dementia aware in its outlook and approaches. Our ongoing actions include raising and promoting awareness around dementia both within our church family and the wider community.

Our aim

Our aim will be to provide and create an environment where those affected by dementia, their carers, families and friends feel valued, supported and understood and are able to remain connected to their church and wider community.

We at St Peter’s are very aware of the impact of Dementia on the community around us and in our own congregation. We are also aware of how much our thinking and practice needs to change to ensure we make the correct changes to the church environment so that folks living with Dementia feel very safe.

This means that we need to change our environment to encompass existing thinking to permit changes that will meet the needs appropriately. This page will reflect what is happening in our church to meet these very specific needs.

The very first announcement is that we are proud to announce that Elaine Jackson has been appointed as the Church Dementia Friendly representative.
